I’d like you to analyze again if the word “towards” is really acting as as adverb in your clause “Mr. E. walked slowly towards the cute girl.” Towards is a preposition and prepositions can act like adverbs. But to act as adverbs they cannot have an object. Prepositions, on the other hand require and object. In this case, ” the cute girl” is an object. What’s your opinion?

I had no idea about the adverbs with the suffix “-wise”, except some particular cases like clockwise, otherwise, and others that I can’t remember, but with “-ly” and “-ward(s)” I had had more contact with words built with them. I have just seen other cases with “-wise” like crosswise, edgewise, marketwise, timewise, saleswise, streetwise, worldly-wise and so on, very strange for me when I have read them.
