With practice, tongue twisters become easier. I suggest practicing the words carefully, and then working up to saying them quickly.

I remember when I was learning French, I had such a difficult time speaking, especially pronunciation. I found reading to be a lot easier.

Everyday I would look in the mirror and practice specific sounds. It took some time before I started to feel I was getting better.

I’m sure you are improving! Keep practicing and be patient with yourself. :)

Hi Debaghi,

Students often want to sound American or English when they speak English. It’s very difficult to do this if you haven’t grown up in these countries.

It’s okay to have a different accent as long as people understand you. I tell my students to be proud of their accent. When I speak French, it’s clear that I am not French. As long as people understand me, having an accent is fine.

I’m glad you noticed that Charlie. Often, the letter t is pronounced like a d. For example, when you count, the ty at the end of twenty, thirty, forty, etc, is pronounced like a dy.

Hi there, Let me tell u one thing, when t comes between two vowels, it becomes d, like better pronounces as bedder and water pronounces as wader, that’s what I have learned from Internet, still working on the accent.

If you know phonemic simbols you can pronounce any word by finding them in the dictionary, but if you find a word you don’t know and you don’t have a dictionary with you it’s impossible, isn’t it?

Would you mind standing a little bit far from the whiteboard when teaching. Often I have to do backward or forward to find a moment that you are not in front of the word and I can see the word clearly and pronounce it.

Just a point to note here. It’s an important point too. ‘ɪ’ is used in it, sit, kit, fit, and pit for example. ɪ: is the phonetic symbol and addition for the ‘ee’ or ‘y’ in the middle or at the end of a word (there is no variation on this either in American or British English). In ‘century’ it is the latter sound (ɪ:) and phonetic symbol not the former. The correct symbol is and how it is written is thus: sentʃərɪː and not sentʃərɪ. Let’s help make English understandable for all.

It should be noted and included there are allocations for British English and a teacher should not disregard it or brush over it. It has been pronounced this way in the British Isles since before your founding fathers. A little respect would not go amiss. The proper IPA for these words is at the end here. Casting aside England’s English makes it harder for EFL learners and a pain when it comes to teaching. Here are your corrections: tube=tʃuːb and likewise for tutor=tʃuːtə. tu:b is incorrect as is tu:də using your pronunciation is also incorrect, Miss.
