, show me the money
, off the rails

, and more. More importantly, you’ll learn about the general areas of life that you need to learn more about in order to understand these types of casual references in English conversation. This is language you won’t learn from a textbook, but once you know it, you will significantly improve your comprehension, and you will feel a lot more comfortable talking with native English speakers.

Thank you, teacher!!!
Great class!, thank you!!
Great video Adam, thank you!
Nine out of ten before watching. Now, it’s time for me to watch and learn. Thank you for creating such a useful lesson like this one.
thank you Adam, i got 6 of 10.
Thank you Adam. I watch some shows such as The Big Bang Theory, The Flash. CBC Radio helps to understand some of Canada’s actual problems, discussions, etc.
That’s a good idea Leonid. Keep it up.
Could you inform me what does the idiom “in inverted commas” mean?
Hi Tornike,
I’d need to have the full sentence. Inverted means opposite sides or direction. An inverted comma would then be quotation marks. Not sure I am familiar with this as an idiom though.
I’m failed 05% ??
Try again Jasmine. It takes time :)
5 marks*?
IT’s amazing.
Congrats Adam
90%
so can we use these words in writing like in SAT – essay or for a school essay exam
Hi Humaid,
No, these are mostly too casual or too cliche for academic essays. Some are usable, but if you are not sure of the right context, better to avoid them.
Thanks, teacher Adan how to you your video because what we don’t understand, to understand you so we haven’t understood anything about in English in this knowledge we know some about English thanks Mr: Adan Keep going best teacherm
Hi, Adam. Thanks for the helpful video. You promised to make video about sport vocabulary. It will be great! You know, a lot of teachers try to explain grammar? different between DO and MAKE, Perfect tense or something like this. There are a lot of videos related to the same topics in Internet. But there aren’t enough videos for listening skills. Recommendation to watch TV are good. But many student, like me, who passed English grammar with red Murthy and have 3000 words in their vocabulary can’t watch TV and movies. Because they have high speed, use more vocabulary and many specific words and expressions. I can valuably watch only Peppa Pig and also I use Mad English channel for listening skills. YouTube is good things for students because we can reduce speed turn on subtitles. We’d like to have 5-12 minutes videos for listening. For that I guess teacher may use any events and tell as their opinion or reaction and along the way explain the words . Thanks again!
Hi Nina,
I’ll see what I can do, but I don’t schedule the lesson topics. Hopefully it will come up soon.
As for listening, it’s all about training the ears with practice. ;)
Thank you, Adam!
thank you Mr.Adm
Thank you. Good teacher!
Thanks Adam for your lesson, it’s very helpful, I look forward to your new videos!
Thank you very much, teacher.
Thanks for this class, Adam!! I have a question: can you explain why you used the word “TEMPO” instead “Time” in the basketball exemple? :D
Hi Gabrielvs,
No-one can control time. Tempo means speed, which you can control (i.e., play fast or slow– this allows you to use more time on each play or les time to have more plays, etc.).
Hope this helps :)
Thanks for the great question and explanation here.
All your tips sound very sensible.
Thanks a lot Adam ;)
10/10, Thanks Adam, you are a great theacher
Hi Adam, Thank you for useful video. You show a greate idea about learning language. If you create new lesson about sports term, I and a lot of your student will be happy. For instanse, what the difference between take away and give away.
Hi Erazm,
In sports, a take away is a steal (you take the ball away from the other team). At the same time, the other team gives it away (lose the ball).
Of course these terms have other meanings in other contexts. Too many to list here though. Type “define take away” in a search engine and you will see some of these.
Hope this helps.
This’s an amazing lesson I learned a lot of things. My way to understand more spoken English is to take a script of my favourite TV show and print it out and then I highlight all the new words and phrases. I then use Anki app to make my flashcards and I learn them for like 2 weeks and when I feel ready I watch the episode to test my comprehension. I know this is a long process but during making the flashcards I actually absorb the words and when I’m learning on Anki it generally feels like reviewing really. And I actually get to know a lot of advanced words and phrases using this method. Thanks again Adam.
That’s great, Jude. Effort like that will certainly pay off in the long run. Keep it up :)
my first 90 thank you so much for doing this and give me the opportunity to learn
Thanks Adam
Thanks a lot. Very interesting and useful lessons
9/10 Thank you, Adam.
Hi Adam. Indeed, whole life in a different culture, speaking a different language. Not easy to make up for :)
Perhaps a little bit different issue but challenging to me too – how to understand the weather guys on tv (particularly on the British news channels)? I usually only grasp “sunny spells”. I’m not sure if it is just speed or they use some special syntax. I’d love to watch a lesson in which such a speedy weather forecast was broken down into understandable pieces. Regards.
Good idea Tomek.
A spell is a short period of time. Keep in mind that British, American, Canadian, etc. English each has its own particular phrases. Learn the one you want to use most.
I’ll see what I can do about the weather forecast ;)
Thanks everybody :)
I thank very much for this fantastic lesson!
10/10 Thank you so much teacher :”)
This relates to my situation. Its a big help. Thank you ?
In this video You are teaching us “how to sharpen our saw” not “how to cut the trees”. please do more of these stuff. These are more useful than some grammar rules or vocabulary lessons.
I like Adam the way he teach.
cool lesson!
Great lesson! Hard questions, though. I got a 90.
GOOD LESSON, THANKS
Great lesson! Thank you. I feel like I’m not in Kansas anymore because of my lack of expressions haha
My First classe Adam, very nice!!
Thank you Mr. Adam.
Now my vocabulary got enriched! Can’t wait to use one or two of these! Adam, would you care to make a video about proverbs? Seems like idioms are everywhere, all teachers have at least one video on idioms, but not so many lessons on proverbs. Myself, I often use “every cloud has a silver lining”. I bet you could come with a bunch of really useful ones.
thank you)
A good lesson.
