by
and with
can explain how we do something. But if you don’t know which to use, don’t worry…you will by the end of this video! I’ll show you the key grammatical differences between these words, as well as what sentence structure to use with each, so that you can use by
and with
correctly in your spoken and written English. Once you understand the difference, I don’t think you’ll confuse them ever again! Test yourself after the lesson to see if you can get 10/10!

I have gotten 10/10. Emma ,Can you plz elaborate me why we don’t put an article before noun like in this sentence: ” I will contact you by email”?

thanks Emma.
I have a question. What is the difference between ‘by’ and ‘through’ ?
if there is any video about that question, I couldn’t see.
Thanks Emma, this lesson was great..it’s easy understand what you say…:)
Thanks a lot , you cleared my confusion about the difference between by and with.
Thanks Dear Emma: I love this lesson I got 10 correct out of 10 have a great time.
I think that there is a mistake in question 7. If the right answer is with there should be “a” before chopsticks. Am I right?
As Emma explained very clearly you won’t use any article after the preposition “by”
Chopsticks in the plural
Additionally, you cannot say a chopsticks because “chopsticks” is a plural noun. If you want to add an article, you can only say like this: a pair of chopsticks!
Hi,roshavbg!I think we have no ‘a’ here because ‘chopsticks’ are plural.Good luck!
Hi there . Anton is right
roshavbg, also you should answer “with chopsticks”, not “by chopsticks”.
You improve our English with these lesson and quiz. I grow up fastly by using it. Thanks a lot
By the way, can one say “I grow up fastly using it”? That is without “by,” isn’t it?
Excellent lesson.
Thanks Emma.

Hello Emma ,
As always a nice lesson . Thank you for giving us a way to be less confused by posting this video .
Howether , about the quiz , with the last question , I think it would be better that Sasha doesn’t waste her time to dig a hole by shoveling . She’d better call the undertaker by phone and save time and keep on chasing this zombie who killed her friend instead . After she catch him , she will be able , by using the zombie language , to ask why he did so bad and tell him with force that he is not allowed to do it again .
Why couldn’t she simply kill the zombie ? Because he is already dead .
Funny comment by reading a funny question .
See you Emma
Thank you eMMA

Dear Emma, I liked this video of yours, especially considering that you frequently used your hands to underline some parts of your speech. Yes, even Canadiens talk with their hands!! Ahahahah….
Hello,
This is my first post. After I have watch this, I got a confusion in my way of English, I used to say “I came by walk”. In this case because of “BY” is necessary to use WALKING, it sounds strange, please correct me if i am wrong.
“Walking” is the right word to use here, but it does sound strange. A native English speaker would actually use a different idiom in this case: “on foot”. E. g., “I came here on foot” or “police are chasing the thief on foot.”
Thank you Engvid and Thank you Emma..

Hi everybody, I have a question for you. In one of my readings assigned me, there is something like this:
“Becoming Modern: Transformations of Time and Space
Living as a slave
Living by the clock
Living in the city”
So, the question is that why did the lecturer use by(living by the clock) instead of with?
ıs there anyone who wants to explain this?
Thanks in advance!
Hi . I think with means together , but by means with the help of something or someone. Like: I live with my mother. I live by ( by the help of ) my father.
I’ll contact you by Pigeon lol that was good one
10/10
First, thank you for teaching English by making a simple and understandable video.
my question- aren’t go by and come by phrasal verbs?
I usually solve them by sense :D
Well explained by the way, Thanks!
Thank you
Great lesson! Congratulations, You solved all my doubts about this subject. Thanks!
Thanks, Emma, for this interesting and useful lesson!
I generally don’t pay attention to finger nails, but now I’m amused with this original color. Cool.
I would say that Italians talk with their hands (body part) and by their hands (communication) :). But now I undertood that we have to use “with” in this case.
To divert whatever misunderstanding, by “amused” I mean that I consider it beautiful and that it carries personality.
Nothing to say, Thank you and thank you.
Great!!! I had 100 :D
I thank you Emma because you always help those are wants help like me.

Thanks! Emma
I have a question: Why did u write “I’m turning on the computer by pushing the on button” Why didn’t u write pushing on the button ?
“ON” button is for turning your device on, and “OFF” button is for shutting it down. It came from that old times when devices (T.V. for example)had two buttons:”ON” and “OFF”. It is like “вкл.” and “выкл.” buttons in Russian.
“I’m shutting my computer down (turning my computer off) by pushing the off button”.
It was super duper.I enjoyed the class. Thanks indeed.
It’s a great lesson….!!
If I say, I contact to you with the phone. than it is wrong or right. please explain… here phone is an instrument that is used to talked with sb.

Thank you Emma ,I got 7
10. After her brother was killed by a zombie, Sasha dug a hole in the ground _________ a shovel.
Miss Anna you told us in this video that we don’t use articles with ” by ” but here in this sentence you used ” by a zombie ” could you explain why, please ??
I’m confused too
I think in this case the question for the sentence is: “By whom?” not “How” so we use in different meaning.
Your explanation is very helpful. Thank you teacher ??
