Nice work! Now put that knowledge into practice.
Alex
Hi Alex, Thank you for the lesson. I got 10/10 from the quiz. I do have a question. Can we say “Slow but Sure”?
pen2009
I’ve never heard that used. The correct and common usage is “slowly but surely.” They must be adverbs.
Alex
Happy 2018….!!! Sir would you please tell me that can we say “wait and watch”? Is it grammatically correct?
shubhammm
“Sir, would you please tell me if we can say…”
The correct and common phrase you’re looking for is “wait and see.” :) “Wait and watch” is grammatically correct, but it’s not the most common phrase.
Alex
Than you Alex. I watched the video and finished the quiz But I couldn’y understand now and then. Could you explain it again.
ekenciz
“Now and then” is another way to say “sometimes” or “occasionally.” It’s also very similar to “from time to time.”
I watch horror movies now and then, but I prefer to watch dramas.
I only call my sister now and then. We’re not very close.
Does this help a little?
Alex
Thank you. I got it :)
ekenciz
Hi Alex,thank’s for lesson..
sooner or later I’ll be good in English just wait and see .

Little by little our dreams are ripped apart. Little by little this race is run. Little by little I learn I’m not the one… Little by little the arrows hit their mark…”
You’re very welcome. Thanks for studying with me and with EngVid. :)

Alex
Hi, Alex!
First of all I wanna thank you for all your lessons.
You are incredible!
I hear you saying the word “OFTEN” exactly as it sounds and I wonder, we should to pronounce this word like: “OFEN”, no? ‘couse I eared it that way. Or it’s because you’re from Canada or something…what is the correct way, please?
Thanks in advance!
Saul Joury
Haha. You’re the second person to mention this to me. I think I usually say “ofen,” but I guess I didn’t in this video. Both are accepted pronunciations, but the silent T is much more common. You had the right idea. Keep saying “often” like “ofen.” :)
Alex
Great! Thank u very much!
Saul Joury
Thanks Alex, and happy new year
jmrodrigoch
You’re welcome! Thanks for studying with me, and happy new year to you too!

I got 10 out of 10. The quiz was quick and easy (easy-peasy). Excellent lesson. I like your examples with music and movies, and I noticed you like Game of Thrones, don’t you? I saw the question with Cersei and Sansa, that was funny. Thank you!

beernaard
De rien! Merci d’avoir regarde! (J’espere que c’est correct…)
Alex
your explanation is slowly but surely, thanks
SKIKDA
You’re welcome! Thank you for studying with me. You can’t really say “Your explanation is slowly but surely” because “slowly but surely” is an adverb expression. It has to modify a verb that is NOT the verb to be. You CAN say “You explain slowly but surely.”
Alex
Thank you!!! It was a great lesson. Slowly but surely!!
Miria Ferreira
My pleasure! Thanks for studying with me, Miria. Keep practicing!
Alex

Alex
Hello Alex,
I can tell what is to learn slowly but surely. I have been learning with Engvid for eight months now. Even though It could be frustrating when you do not understand some things at the beginning, it is amazing when you notice that you are able to get almost everything. (Including different accents and dialects).
Thank you
Albeiro Ruiz
That’s awesome, Albeiro! Thanks for studying with us, and good job on improving your English over the past eight months!
Alex
Whats uo Alex? I remember an old movie of Bill Muray where he uses “baby steps” literally… Very funny. Thanks for the lesson.

Step by step, oh, baby, really want you in my world.
alixpro
Haha. Looks like you’re another child of the 90s. It’s not a bad thing!
Alex
Hi ALEX
How are you?
Today I just watch your lectures these are awesome.
Actually I need to ask you a few questions about the studies in Canada.I want to continue my studies of medical in there so can you please tell me that which are the best medical college over there and help me with the links of these colleges so that I could apply in them.
thank you I shall be oblige.
sadia akhtar22
Hi Sadia, the top Canadian universities are ranked every year by Maclean’s Magazine. I did a little research, and here are the top 5 medical universities in the country:
hello, i’m afraid it is not related to the video, when i whatch news i usually see, for example, TRUMP TO PAY A STATE VISIT TO CHINA, honestly, it sounds incomplete to me. thus, i was wondering if somebody could tell me what it actually means. ALL THE BEST.
Samuell Macuacua
That’s a good idea for a lesson! News headlines have to be short, so they often leave out words, especially forms of “to be”. Here, the sentence means Trump is to pay a state visit to China.
engVid Moderator
Definitely a good idea for a lesson. This sentence in particular simply means Trump will make a state visit to China. You can use the phrase “pay a visit” as a more formal way to say “visit.”
Alex
Thanks, Alex.
You all have made English easy if go step by step. I do use these words not all but didn’t notice that much. overall great tips. by the way, I got 9 correct out of 10.

Happy new year to you too, Inaldo! All the best in 2018.

You’re welcome! Thank you for studying with me. You can’t really say “Your explanation is slowly but surely” because “slowly but surely” is an adverb expression. It has to modify a verb that is NOT the verb to be. You CAN say “You explain slowly but surely.”
Thank you!!! It was a great lesson. Slowly but surely!!
My pleasure! Thanks for studying with me, Miria. Keep practicing!

Hi lela, unfortunately, I do not offer private services like this at the moment, but if you have specific grammar questions or a paragraph that you want feedback on, I’d be happy to give my input.
Hello Alex,
I can tell what is to learn slowly but surely. I have been learning with Engvid for eight months now. Even though It could be frustrating when you do not understand some things at the beginning, it is amazing when you notice that you are able to get almost everything. (Including different accents and dialects).
Thank you
That’s awesome, Albeiro! Thanks for studying with us, and good job on improving your English over the past eight months!
Whats uo Alex? I remember an old movie of Bill Muray where he uses “baby steps” literally… Very funny. Thanks for the lesson.
Haha. You got it! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that movie, though.
Thank you Alex. I’m learning English step by step and your lessons help me very much. I like your way to teach us. You are fabulous teacher. Happy New Year! Best wishes!
Thanks a lot, Kotat!
“You are a fabulous teacher.” (use an article before a singular count noun and when you’re referring to someone’s job)
Happy new year to you too! All the best in 2018!

This is my favorite song.
Step by step, oh, baby, gonna get to you, girl
Step by step
Step by step, oh, baby, gonna get to you, girl
Step by step, oh, baby, really want you in my world.
Haha. Looks like you’re another child of the 90s. It’s not a bad thing!
Hi Sadia, the top Canadian universities are ranked every year by Maclean’s Magazine. I did a little research, and here are the top 5 medical universities in the country:
1. University of Toronto (http://md.utoronto.ca/admissions)
2. University of British Columbia (http://www.med.ubc.ca/)
3. McGill University (Montreal, Quebec) (https://www.mcgill.ca/medadmissions/applying)
4. McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario…my hometown!) (http://mdprogram.mcmaster.ca/md-program-admissions)
5. University of Alberta (https://www.ualberta.ca/medicine/)
Good luck!
hello, i’m afraid it is not related to the video, when i whatch news i usually see, for example, TRUMP TO PAY A STATE VISIT TO CHINA, honestly, it sounds incomplete to me. thus, i was wondering if somebody could tell me what it actually means. ALL THE BEST.
That’s a good idea for a lesson! News headlines have to be short, so they often leave out words, especially forms of “to be”. Here, the sentence means Trump is to pay a state visit to China.
Definitely a good idea for a lesson. This sentence in particular simply means Trump will make a state visit to China. You can use the phrase “pay a visit” as a more formal way to say “visit.”
Thanks, Alex.
You all have made English easy if go step by step. I do use these words not all but didn’t notice that much. overall great tips. by the way, I got 9 correct out of 10.
Nice work on the quiz! Keep it up!

Oh, great lesson, Alex. That music “Time after time” played in my marriage. It was good remember. Hugs. Have a new good year.
“The song ‘Time After Time” played at my wedding.” :) “Wedding” is the event. “Marriage” is the union.
Happy new year to you too, Inaldo! All the best in 2018.

That’s fantastic! That’s usually how it goes if you study regularly and hear the language on a regular basis. Just keep listening, keep speaking, keep reading, and keep writing. More good things will continue to happen.
