Learn which verbs in English we use with your favourite sports. PLAY, GO, and DO are used for different sports. In this lesson, you will find out how to know which one to use with each sport.
But I can use play with golf, am I right? since it’s a game and games are played…
cabroso
Yes, you can say “I play golf!”
ronnie
When talking about sports/games -or any other topic- is important to know which word goes or collocates with which word. This will help us use the language properly.
IT’s much easier for me to learn vocabulary in context as it makes the learning of vocabulary more interesting and meaningful.
Thanks for this superb video-lesson Ronnie.
Regino
why? play golf. go golfing

If you are a “cyclist” you say “I cycle”.

chenchen92
“He races cars” is correct!
We have to use the “s” on “I race cars”, because there is more than one car in a race — so cars must be plural! You cannot have a race with 1 car — you need at least two!
Ronnie
oh,sorry miss.. thats not a one question.. but some questions..

Thanks Ronnie.

I just started learning English on the Internet recently. Typically,I rarely have the opportunity to communicate in English with others. Because I usually use the language of my country. I like English and like to talk English with other people In countries around the world. But my problem is that my English is not good.
Today I had found you and your site. ‘www.engvid.com’ I know that my dream is coming true.

But I can use play with golf, am I right? since it’s a game and games are played…
Yes, you can say “I play golf!”
When talking about sports/games -or any other topic- is important to know which word goes or collocates with which word. This will help us use the language properly.
IT’s much easier for me to learn vocabulary in context as it makes the learning of vocabulary more interesting and meaningful.
Thanks for this superb video-lesson Ronnie.
why? play golf. go golfing

If you are the driver, we say I race cars. If you are watching you would say I watch the race!
it’s very uncomfortable to say ” i go snowboard” or “i do aerobics ” ./// can i say .. i am doing aerobics or am doing yoga …am in yoga class , i am going to do snowboard , i am going to do swimming ,(“i go swimming “- it looks strange “)
I go snowboardING is in simple present form…. (used for talking about routine)
I am doing aerobics is used in present continuous…. (we use for what we are doing NOW)
I am going to GO swimming or I am going to GO snowboardING is future tense….(we use when we talk about future plans)
hello Ronnie,
Is it wrong to use “i play golf” despite “I go golfing”.

If you are a “cyclist” you say “I cycle”.

If you ride a bike as transportation, you say “I ride (to+place)”. Ex.. I ride to work/school/
For all of them you can just say I ride a bike!

Thank you.
You can say ” I can ski”, or “I can go skiing”!
nice one ronnie!
Can I say “I go weightlifitng”? It sounds strange. Is “do weightlifting” ok? Thank you.
Yes, do + weightlifting is correct. But we say “I lift weights.”
What about boxing? It ends in ing but you use DO is this just an exception or is there a reason. Also, what about badminton you don’t use a ball but you do say PLAY?
If you do it at a gym, we say DO. So do boxing is ok. Or you can say I box.

“He races cars” is correct!
We have to use the “s” on “I race cars”, because there is more than one car in a race — so cars must be plural! You cannot have a race with 1 car — you need at least two!
oh,sorry miss.. thats not a one question.. but some questions..
Thanks Ronnie.
I confused many times its but I understand cleary.
Thanks a lot.

Practice we usually use for doing sports. Eg…Football practice.
Exercise we use for physical activities that are not sports. Eg. I exercised at the gym.
Do we use “practice” for music instruments?
YEs!
excellent effort for these words to make it easy to use and sensible
If I were a professional sportsman Would I say I TRAIN e.g. tennis?
I would say I practice tennis.
