Hi Ronnie.
‘I don’t have nothing’ – I think, the hungarian students often make this mistake.
In Hungarian this sentence is right, and ’I don’t have anything’ (literally)= it is strange.
We say: ’I don’t have milk.’ (like in English) and ’I don’t have nothing’ (no milk, no bread, no butter, nothing)
It isn’t a mathematical problem in Hungarian. Repetition of negation gives a stronger tone, therefore we often use double negatives.

by the way, it would be grate if someone could create channel explaining 3000 most common words with examples, many times i had encountered with totally different meanings of words depending on situation ( Longman common words). i never seen anybody who made that kind of project. some people learn listening, reading… but lot of people remember words because they could hear,see, and link to the situation. thanks a lot anyway, good job :]

Yeah! ten! Well Ronnie I found a lot songs wherein its lyrics appear to “ain´t” double negative: Nina Simone “Ain’t got no home, ain’t got no shoes
Ain’t got no money, ain’t got no class…”

There´re people who say “ain´t? just it´s a slang, it´s good, use it” because (perhaps) this is popular, accepted or legitimate. But I do agree with you it´s no grammatically correct. Do you have another opinion about this? Greetings!

We don’t need no education… hehe, well I guess the double negative is just an artistic measure, and the actual artist knows the right grammar. What I’ve noticed recently is that there’s a huge trend for “ain’t + no” in the music, which I personally find really annoying, but well… what can we do :)

I haven’t got any problem with this lesson, and I learnt why not to use “ain’t” and double negatives, generally, in English. Let me try a possibly valid one, albeit weird: Jack didn’t buy a not used motorcycle, differently of what you recomended for his safety when you said: “Buy a not used motorcycle, if you are desiring to buy one”.

Interesting that in Portuguese the double negative works to reinforce the negative, what is contrary to logic.
