What's the catch?
Care for another?
Have you met?
Improve your English conversation skills easily and quickly using these ten short questions. Once you start to use these in your speech, you will sound more like a native speaker, because they are all so commonly used. Since they are short, they are easy to learn too! We use these questions at home, at work, and in social situations. If you have been in an English speaking country or watch English television, you’ve probably already heard these questions, but you might not understand what they mean. I’ll explain each expression, give you examples of how they are used, and let you practice them in a short exercise with me. I believe that by the end of this short video, you’ll be able to use these standard questions yourself. Have fun learning these and good luck with your English learning!

What’s the scoop?
You’ve already got five points! My bows to the winner!
Care fore another victory?
Grazie
But when i get Eleven u oughtta send 2 me a ticket and an invitation 2 russia
Hi, Kotoz. That’s the real challenge. But why eleven? What’s the scoop?
OK, bring it on! Just a little question what will happen if anybody else gets eleven points first?
I followe you
Why we don’t create group on skype !!!!!!
I wonder
that would be a hulking Juxtaposition
Do you mind chatting alive? Follow us on Skype. I and Kotoz have already made friends on Skype. My login is natakostova1. His login is mentioned in his profile
Hello dear friend, Nataanna
Thank you SO much for your respect and exciting suggestion. But to tell you the truth I’m not interested in using these social networks, like Skype, telegram, etc. Now I don’t join them. Because I just want to focus on my GOAL. THANKS AGAIN.
Hello, nkh453!
Your goal to be a doctor is highly appreciated. I think you work long hours to succeed. And I’m so grateful for chance being you friend here, on EngVid. I do mean it!
As for me, I have some troubles in speaking. That’s why I support any idea to speak, although it takes much time, you are absolutely right.
I keep searching for your request about Russia. You know it appeared not too easy: the photos are to be informative but not overwhelming to introduce my country the best way. I’ve asked my husband for help. He is a historian and a touristic guide. So, you’ll get the information straight from the house’s mouth.
See you!
again! A lot of skipped articles! It’s hard using them for Russians. I always notice my mistakes, when I check comments after submitting, as you see.. My fault, sorry.
Thank you a lot Nataanna for your kindness. I Wait for you.
I have a question for you: do you mean straight from the horse’s mouth from your last expression?
Hello, nkh! You’ve lost something(l mean 453). What’s the scoop?
My comment about Russia needs to be approved, so you’ll get the notification later I suppose.
Sorry, I didn’t answer your question earlier- I haven’t seen it. Sometimes I get the notification letter about a new respond, but I can’t find it. I think it happened the same.
About horse’s mouse- an idiom related to the breaking news from the first person (from the witness). Does this help?
See you
i think you are right nkm somewhat because these social networks may take time of you ,and because of that i focus on the listening much more than practicing
maybe one day i’ll join your group but now i don’t have a skype at all but i promise i will find you one day on the skype
Ok, SKIKDA! I’ll wait for you. Thank you. See you.
Very useful expressions Rebecca. Their use will surely make our English sound much more natural.
Great lesson!
Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on being the first one to leave a comment! All the best to you, kotoz.

Hello Teacher! Could I get certification from your website?

Hi, nkh453! Kotoz is going to Russia if gets eleven points first! Do you follow me?

Glad you found the lesson useful, Lazaros. Thanks for your kind feedback. My best wishes to you.
so helpfull lession. thanks rebecca
The Engvid lessons are highly professional, accurate, differentiated by target and level, and amazingly free.
What is the catch? (Of course I’m joking).
Thank you Rebecca and all the staff at Engvid.
Thanks for your kind words, Riccardo S. Good use of the expression too! Viewers like you make it all worthwhile. I wish you all the best.
thanks
Thanks. teacher, I got out of 10, I understood the lesson at all
thank you. its really helpful
thanks Rebecca
Sounds good to be qustion.
?
Estou muito empolgado com tudo. Obrigado Rebecca…
I’m very excited about everything. Thank you rebecca…
thanks for the lesson.
Thanks a lot.
Very helpfull lesson , thank you Rebecca x
Thanks Rebecca! I liked so much this lesson!
Thanks, Giancarlo. Here’s a bonus lesson for you.
In English we say:
I like this lesson so much.
I like pizza a lot.
I like music very much.
Subject + verb + direct object
Hope that helps! My best wishes to you.
haha,I GET ALL OF THEM!
Thank you for more knowledge.
thanks Rebecca! really it’s nice to teach us that
Nice lesson. Some expressions I already knew, but others are completely new for me. Thanks Rebecca! Until next time.
Great lesson
Thanks
Thanks Rebecca, this lesson was great..
Thanks, marcos alexandre. Hope you started using some of those questions already. All the best to you.
Thank you ao much rebecca!
Thanks . Good.
excellent topic wich i can remember these expressions because they are only three words.
I have heard and followed this lesson with attention and I would care for another one, because I wouldn’t like to leave so soon this comment about the grateful scoops inside it, I don’t mind to waste time studying how to think, speak, and write in English but the matter would be being more efficient than whoever it wasn’t learning so, which means that I have met what I was searching without being the catch of these expressions. It has been a philosophical essay with all of the sentences, but I don’t know if it will have sense, I hope so. Thanks, teacher Rebecca, it has been a long lesson with short questions, easy to remember, and as always very useful.
Thanks, angardiobel, for your detailed comment! I am glad you found the lesson helpful. All the best to you.
Thanks again teacher Rebecca because I have been thinking of an expression like “to have sense” but I believe that it would be more precise and correct if I had written “to make sense”, I think it would be the right verb, the verb “to make”.
I understand this lesson today. thank you for your kind tecahing. see you Rebecca!
hello rebecca. i have a significant problem with the daily conversation.would you send me the all of the daily conversation sentences that are used in english conversation??!! thanks a millions.
Great lesson Rebecca. I love listening to you. I don’t know why understanding you is so simple but when I try to repeat the lessons loudly, the words don’t come to my mouth!
Annala, I promise you the right words will come out of your mouth if you keep practicing and believing in your ability to succeed. Think of it this way: if someone paid you a million dollars to say something correctly in English, do you think you would learn it and say it properly? I think you would. So what changed? Only the motivation, but that factor is key to everything! Always make the voice in your head strong, proud, and confident, and you’ll live your best life. I know you can do it! All the best, my friend.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your kind comments. It means a lot to us. These questions can help you sound more natural. You don’t have to start using them all right away. Just choose a few which are similar to expressions you use in your own language and go forward from there. One step at a time! I wish you my very best.
After this great lesson, I would definitely care for another because I know there´s no catch. It is what it is and I followed it all. Some of them I´ve been alreay using in my everyday life whenever I can and I´ll try to use the others, too. It´s evident you do what you love and love what you do, which is teaching. Thanks a bunch!!!
* I meant “I´ve already been using” back there. My mistake ;)
Thanks for your kind feedback, Emanoel. Always great to hear from a fellow English teacher. Yes, I do love teaching! My father always said, “Do what you like, otherwise like what you do.” I wish you all the best with your own students, my friend.
thank you very much!!
Hi Rebecca,
Can “What’s the scoop?” be another answer in Q10?
I don’t know how to tell “What’s the matter?” and “What’s the scoop?”.
Thank you very much.
Do not use literal translation
Imagin u were talking with ur mate James
U have said hi james do u know what has happened to tom ?
He said :no what is the scoop? [ obviously what is the news ?]
“What’s the matter?” is used to refer to a bad or negative situation. You would use it when someone looks worried, for example.
“What’s the scoop?” is used in more neutral or positive situations.
Hope this helps! All the best to you, Guan-Wen.
Thanks very much
It’s really worth it.
A good lesson by a good teacher. Thank you, Rebecca.
I got out of 10 . i totally understand this lesson , thanks .
Good for you, RR-KO. Congratulations! You have succeeded! You have achieved success! I wish you all the best.
thanks Rebecca, really it is a nice lesson.
Thank you Rebecca, with my meager knowledge, I understood everything. If at the beginning of something I did not understand that when you gave examples of everything becomes clear !!))
So glad to hear that, Yuriy Kornienko! I can see you are a determined person as you didn’t give up at the first sign of difficulty, but persisted, and then you reaped the benefit. Good for you! I wish you all the best. So glad I could help you.
Hi Rebecca
Thanks for your lesson, it was very good.
Of the ten questions, only three were difficult for me.
The questions were:
Do you mind?
Leaving so soon? and
What’s the scoop?
Scoop is the same that spoon.
But, scoop also is a piece of news published in advance of its rivals
Thanks
Thank you Rebecca!
Very useful lesson.thank u very much …
Thank you so much, Rebecca.
I say and I’ll say it again. This is one of the bests ways of learning English. I want to thank you and all Engvid staff of your labor because I’m studying English in Melbourne, Australia. And I’m so glad to see how my English has been improving with these videos.
Best wishes for all!.
Wow, Ramiro, thank you so much for your very kind and generous words. It means a lot to all of us here at EngVid. I wish you all the best with your English and your life, wherever in the world you may find yourself.

Have u met ?
No ..I’m Not met him before this time
what is going on in here?
yes i am a girl! excuse me guys….
A helpful lesson!!Thank you.
Thanks a lot !!!
Thank you so much for this lesson Rebecca. Very usefull expressions to use with native speakers and to understand what they say in a informal situation.
Yes, you’re right, Hediuillio. You will hear these expressions a lot in everyday conversation, and they’re quite easy to learn as well. Thanks for your feedback and all the best, my friend.
I really like leaning real spoken English!
Thanks Rebecca.
I have a question ? why there is not “S” after Dollar = The Six Million Dollar Man….. six hundred dollars….one million dollars and .
When we have large numbers or a specific number, we don’t put an S at the end of hundred / thousand and million
but keep in mind when we talk about an approximate figure
Do u follow ????????
well….I understand it….six million dollars … “S” used this place ….but at this word= Six million dollar man ….Adjective and noun…..
Total is not true…. five blue bird…it’s Not “five blue birds” because there are Adjective and noun…and Total is not true
Very useful short sentences! Thanks a lot Rebecca!
Ola’
Boa Noite
Thenk you Rebecca!It´s very interesting!
Thanks Rebecca
Very interesting class. I like it very much
hi Rebecca. it is really a fun and helpful lesson.
There were words that i didnt know yet, such as “catch a flight”. Then I googled it and got the idea! Understanding other words than words focused in lessons make me faster to learn new words!
Thank you and until next time :)
i like this lesson .
I definitely followed what you said because you spoke so clearly!
I’m not sustaining that I’m slow minded but believe me, when native speakers begin talking “normally” I can hardly follow them….
Thanks Rebecca, see you soon.
I like it,thx for it.
Perfect! awesome!
its more fun with this quiz.
Hello teacher i still confused the word “what ‘s the catch”
“What’s the catch?” means what’s the difficult condition behind something that seems so wonderful.
Let’s say someone told you they would give you a million dollars, but you find it hard to believe. So you ask, “What’s the catch?” and they say you have to swim across the Atlantic Ocean in one day. So that condition, swimming across the Atlantic, is the catch – the difficult problem, the hidden drawback, behind what seems like a lovely offer.
Hope this helps, PANUTDA. All the best to you.
Great examples of common expressions! And I agree with Canardo, from Italy, about you speak clearly. It helps a lot! Thanks Rebecca!
Thanks, raphadamazio, for your kind words. Your self-intro is very well written, so let me just help you with one point:
personal – concerning your private life
personnel – concerning the staff or employees
Hope that helps! You sound like a determined person who knows how to achieve your goals. I wish you all the best.
Thank you Rebecca.

See you.
Thank you Rebecca! From now on I’ll be trying these questions in my daily conversations.Sometimes you get use to some expressions and forget that you can make things easier using just 3 words. :)
Yep, exactly! That’s why I chose these short, easy expressions which are complete and correct at the same time. It’s great that you’re going to try using them, so you can really master them. All the best to you, Frances2.
Hello Rebecca! Those 3-word question will be very useful, thank you so much for this video!
Thank you,Rebecca for great lesson!
Thanks Rebecca, always I enjoy your lessons.
I agree with Fabio, your pronunciation is very good to understand. Thank you Rebecca!
“Michael knocks on the door loudly. From inside the house, his friend Jack asks:” In this question I understand what’s the catch :-) the right answer definetly is “Who is It” because the are song of Michael Jackson.
Thanks, Rebecca. Very useful lesson. In this lesson, I learned some new expressions and the important thing is that you also told me how to use them. Thanks again.

You are already doing so many things right, just by being here, at this website and watching these lessons. That shows you are serious and care about improving yourself. Always ask yourself:
What’s the best that can happen?
Then your brain will start producing lots of positive possibilities. Let me know how it goes after starting each day with that question for a week or a month. I am sure you will see results, my friend. You can do it, kramees!

Thanks Rebecca. I have a question, what’s difference between “what’s the matter?” and “what’s happened?”
“What’s the matter?” is always about something negative. Is like “what’s wrong?”.
“What’s happened?” could be about something negative, but not necessarily.
Hope that helps! All the best to you, Natta. @28.
