Shouldn’t be placed a coma in the following sentence ?
1. “We send the cars that we manufacture outside the country.”
I see a second meaning :
We manufacture cars outside the country and send them to another location .

I checked out Engvid web site and found a lesson from Alex about “comma”.
For the first meaning , shouldn’t they write this : “We send the cars ,that we manufacture , outside the country.” ?

Hi Charleville,

Actually, there is no need of a comma in this sentence; it should NOT be used there. The sentence means that every single car that we manufacture is sent outside the country, whereas the ones not manufactured by us (mnf.by a different company) MIGHT remain in the country (but not necessarily).

Note that the relative pronoun “that” is only for defining only; it shouldn’t be used in a non-defining clause with a comma. Hence, if “that” functions as a relative pronoun (as in Rebecca’s example), it should NOT be preceded by a comma. You can check this page:
