I have two task (in) everyday which are listening VOA Special English and Watch and Listening your Engvid. I think they are all good and can improve my English. For VOA, I have followed nearly 15years and have just started following you half year maybe. I do basketball referring in Australia and come from China. You know in the basketball court, anyone can be my English teacher even kids when I do referring for their games.
Also my referring partner. sometimes I tell them if I make joking and you can understand, that’s mean I speak right. If not, I should practice again. Ok, That’s all for this and I say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
So glad to hear our lessons are helping you in your career as well as life in general. You are right; we can learn from children or anyone that speaks the language well. I wish you all the best.
Hi Rebecca! Please give your opinion on these three sentences particularly third one…..
1. The train came on time.
2. The passenger came in time.
3. The train is running to time.

You can just say:
I live in Saudi Arabia.
You don’t need to use the word “the”.
Or you can say:
I live in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
That would also be grammatically correct, though most people would not use that expression as much as the first one. Hope this helps. My best wishes to you.

Thank you for this video but I want to know in and on with respect to time
hello…I’m a new member of your group and I really appreciate your good job…your video is really interesting but I didn’t find the answer that I’m looking for…I know that we say “I live on an island” but is it the same when using the name of the island? Or we must use the preposition “in” in this case…I mean we say ” I live on Crete/on Santorini/Mykonos etc” OR “I live in Santorini/IN Mykonos etc…” I’m really confused and thank you for your help in advance!!!!
Usually, people use “on” when giving the name of the island. For example,
I live on Maui.
All the best to you.

You know, I read some article where it claims that we can say without ON for week days in specific cases.
For example, I see Monday.
What do you think about (it/that/this) ?
Yes, in casual speech, we can say:
See you Monday.
However, in academic and formal contexts, it’s best to know and use the correct preposition. My best to you.

Hi Rebecca,

Thank you :)
excellent
what could i use if i am specifying an area(inside a city and not a street, but which has many streets) or in case of intersection of two areas?
Thank you Rebecca for your lesson, but i wonder why The Who albums are named Live at Leeds and Live at The Isle of Wright Festival?
Ohhhh! That’s live as an adverb, not a verb. Pronounced with a long “i” so it rhymes with “five”. It means it’s not recorded in a studio, but at a concert. (In this case, concerts at Leeds and the Isle of Wight.)
Very easy to memories. Thank you, teacher.

Thank you Rebecca for being such a really awesome teacher. Regards from Indonesia.
hi teacher…
I’m zaheer ahmed from Pakistan, could you please tell me the difference b/w the use of interrogative pronoun and interrogative adjective…
i know somewhat that if a noun is written right next to the interrogative pronoun it becomes an interrogative adjective…
but i don’t get the right differece of these two in context…
as { WHICH IS YOUR COUT? here which is pronoun b/c there is a verb right after it…}
and { WHICH COUT IS YOURS? here there is a noun after which, so it plays a role of an adjective
but what is the jist to this all…
i mean there must be someother obvious differnce other than verb and noun…
if they mean the same thing then how do we come to know that what is the main purpose of using them both differently… why do we not use any one of them instead…?
In question number 10 of quiz the sentence is written as
Sheila has lived in New Delhi for the past 2 years.
so can we write a short number like 2 in numeral form in the sentence…
or we should write it in words… please do let me know…
i’ve notice this in teacher Emma’s video about HOW TO WRITE NUMBERS IN ENGLISH…she tells in this video that don’t use any numeral if it’s a short number… use in words instead…
Thank you, Rebecca))

Dear Teacher Rebecca,
I am writing to you concerning some usages of At, On and In. The prepositions are one of the most important problems in English for English learners. Even though most students including me understand these three prepositions well for Time and Place, I am too confused to use these words for some conditions: for example, actions, states and so on. I searched the usages of the words on the internet, especially on Youtube, but most teachers explained how to use these three words for Place and Time. So I wrote them down on a page and found out what they were different and what they were similar to by using Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary. It made me a little clear and I am still confused for some usages.
Regarding this, there are some usages I am not sure how to use them ( they are according to just Oxford dictionary):
1.
(a) At ( 5. In direction of or towards)
e.g. Somebody threw paint at the prime minister.
(b) On ( 10. Used to show direction)
e.g. He turned his back on us.
In this two situation, I think At means a movement and On means steady, not have any movement. But I am not sure whether they are interchangeable.
2
(a) In ( 10. Used to show a state or condition)
e.g. The daffodils were in full bloom.
(b) On ( 17. Used to describe an activity or a state)
e.g. The book is currently on lone
So these situations are really mixed up to remember. Would it be possible to use both prepositions for a state? For example:
– They are IN a difficult situation or they are ON a difficult situation.
– The man IN the debt used to be rich or the man ON the debt used to be rich.
3.
In vs With
In (14 used to show the language, material, etc. Used)
e.g. She wrote in pencil.
So is it the same?
– She wrote IN pencil & she wrote With pencil?
– He cuts it In a knife or he cuts it With a knife?
4.
(a) At ( 9. Used to show a rate, speed, etc)
e.g. He was driving AT 70 mph.
(b) In ( 18. Used to show a rate or relative amount)
e.g. a tax rate of 22 pence IN the pound.
– He was driving IN 70 mph and a tax rate of 22 pence At the pound.
I would be pleased if you explained these prepositions in detail to me. Thank you in advance for your explanation.
thank you very much
Thanks! First time i see a question with an Arabic name :/
Thanks a million for the lesson.

I guess these prepositions of place we need to learn together with the same prepositions of time (triangle). The most exact – AT. Restricted area or period of time – ON. And a common place or time – IN.
