load
have? What about loaded
? In this video, you’ll learn some of the common ways we use these words. We’ll cover formal, informal, and slang uses of these words. In English, expressions based on one word can have so many different meanings! For example, did you know that I'm loaded
can mean “I’m drunk” or “I’m rich”? You’ll also see expressions such as a load off my chest
, a shitload
, free loader
, a load of rubbish
, and many more. I will also show you some great strategies to help your learning and understanding of new vocabulary. After you watch the video, review these expressions by taking the quiz, and practice using them with your friends!

Hi Emma. I know an other expression with load.
Bases are loaded. It is a baseball term that means runners are on every bases. It is a huge chance to score! Probably you know it, because you live in Canada and Canada has a baseball team which is called Tronto Bluejays!
Thank You! “a load off my chest” is like ” a mountain off my shoulders” )
Thank you vermu much Emma,
I think your are very rich. Because your heart is too big and we are the big fans of your lessons, Emma!
Great lesson!! But I know one more meaning of this word. If you know what I mean:D Sorry. I’ m being rude right now.
Emma, it’s ok to say “Mark was lying, Mark was not being honest, Mark was wrong”, but to say “Mark is/was stupid” is not right for two reasons. Firstly, it’s impolite, especially because you knew the guy personally, and secondly, he wasn’t stupid, he may have wanted to make a joke of it, or he may have heard or read about it somewhere. Maybe I am Mark, you never know, hahah ;)
Hi Emma, very good lesson about this new word. Lots of meanings for just one word, that is amazing.
Thanks!!!
Thanks Emma!

Hello, Emma.
My name is Haridan, I am Thai but now I am working in Malaysia as reviewer position. Sure, English is used every day of my working.
I have been learning English from EngVid.com for a long time, but I still can not speak English. I mean My English is not good enough for communications in daily life, when I want to explain or say something, my mouth is paused. I do not know why. Even though Now, I gain more understanding English in listening part. (I do not have a problem about writing and reading.) but my speaking part is still not good.
So, I am writing this comment because I want to know the tips from you how to improve my speaking skills, sometime I feel frighten when i am speaking English especially when people whom I talk to do not understand what I am saying. I lose my confidence** immediately.
How should I do?
Thank you so much.
Your English is absolutely incredible!
I have the same problem as you.
I can’t speak a single word when i was encountered with foreigner.
It’s probably because in Thailand we hardly ever speak English in daily life.
Anyway keep it up pal.
Thank you Emma
Thank you Emma!!

Thank you very much,Emma!

Tank you Eva
Load also has a sexuality connotation, hasn’t it? We see it watching movies or series. I think it is a bad slang…
Very helpfull to me, thanks

I did alright,But I know that i can do better.More lessons.
Thank you Emma))) 10 of 10. Your lessons great.
How is it going ?I meant about Learning English
I enjoyed this lesson so much. Thanks Emma.
Thanks Emma,
my mind is loaded now :D
hi emma, your explanation was 100% nice and very useful!
Hi, Emma. Thanks for this interesting lesson. I got 100. “A load of crap/rubbish” has the same meaning of “bullshit”, doesn’t it? Greetings from Brazil.
I missed one of them cause the question with “loaded” wasn’t clear. It will be cool with “load”. But congratulations !!!
Thank you Emma! Great lesson!
I have only one question about “shitload” expression. Is it appropriate to use in only in a bad way or in a good way, too? Would it be correct if I use it to talk about something pleasant for me?)) (“I have a shitload of cutie cats around me” or “a shitload of my favourite beer”))))) Which connotations the word itself has (aside from the fact that it`s slang and not very polite)?
Sorry for this stupid questions, but it`s so hard – not to feel this things and connotations and small differences which all of us automatically feels in our native language(
Sorry for answering not being Emma, but it`s my whole life`s problem too)
And I just think that it`s not about English, it`s about psychological types. I have extrovert friends that can know 10 words in English and this fact never stop them talking, answering, communicating. And I with my fluent reading/listening can`t speak a word)) Introverts` and perfectionists` problem)
So I think it`s nothing to do with it but make yourself speak – through ftight, through confusion, through knowing that you apparently will make mistakes. It`s hard but I just don`t see any other way(
10/10 thank you Emma for this wonderful lesson , and I won’t use them on formal situation
thank you ..
can you teach me about embedded questions
nice video
Hello, Emma.

how can i improve my speaking skills
thanks
I think to improve your speaking the only way is speaking with someone because you need to practice on that to improve it and if you don’t have someone to talk with I prefere to watch movies and repeate what you here in the conversation in theses movies ..it will helps

Hello Emma!!!
First of all I want to say that this video is pretty nice… but I would like to say that I’m a little confused about why did you use “PEOLPES” because the word “PEOPLE” is already singular.
I learned that I can use “PEOPLES” only when I’m talking about personal pronouns… is that right?
Please, can you take my doubt?
Thank you so much for your videos…
Sorry!!! “PEOPLES” is already PLURAL.
Hi Pauluck, like Emma used that word is indicating possession. If I remmember the sentence she used correct, was something like this ‘ a freeloader doesn’t like to use his money, but other people’s money”. It means he likes to use money of the other people.
Money that belongs to other people.
I get it!!! But this way missed the apostrophe right?! But I get it!!
Thank you!!!
I’ve just looked at the video again and I saw the example Emma used ” They like to use other people’s things”. It has the apostrophe. You’re welcome. I’m here to learn and to do the best I can.
Thanks for a great lesson, see you soon $)

Hi… well, you said: “I wish I WAS loaded”… is this also correct ? I’ve been taught ” I wish I WERE loaded”, for example… Was or Were?
You must use “was” with “I, he, she, it” and “were” with “you, we, they”. So in this case the correct is “I wish I WAS loaded”.
