Probably , the fourth possibility is really good :D

‘It seems to me’ is the correct form. After seems you would only use a ‘to’ to suggest a subjective opinion.
Otherwise, you can say ‘it seems too difficult for him (to do)’ which implies that ‘it seems (to be) too difficult for him…’

Hello Aleesh. 2nd sentence is correct, whereas 1st one is incorrect. Since getting some bread is a specific action, we must put it as can you go to the market to get some bread.Here are examples for general actions for which we can use two ways you mentioned before.
1. This heater is to keep/ for keeping the plants warm in winter.
2. This machine is used to cut/ for cutting plastic.I think this will help you.

The answers you’ve received from the others are correct. I’ll just add that you want to use ‘to’ with a verb and ‘for’ with a noun. In that case you would say:
1) Can you run down to the market for some bread?
2) Can you run down to the market to get some bread?

Aleesh, take out the verb GETTING and let only the noun.
TO GET in infinitive tense say exactly the same FOR SOME BREAD, in different way.
Look at this:
I GO OUT TO RUN
I GO OUT FOR RUNNING
The verb is the last word of the sentence.

Rule: TO is used before an ACTION (a Verb or an invitation) or before THE (article). In this example “GETTING” is an ACTION, although when translated it is seen as “EQUAL”, in English the rules are different (as explained before). For this reason, FOR is not used here, but TO. Nice Day!
Use only #2. I think he mentioned why in the video. It’s relating to movement and direction. Don’t ever use #1 because it’s weird to native speakers. Thanks.
Imagine this situation: you go to the store to buy a computer (to do something) or to steal it. :) but you go to the store for bread (for is used to benefit) or you went to the bank FOR MONEY (because you want to benefit). Does it make sense now? :-) when you transfer something use TO, when you benefit use FOR.

This is a “point out recipient” situation when the verb, not the preposition should be concerned. If you substitute “was” for “arrived” and the sentence still sounds logical, you have no action: “Linda, this package was for you…” Hope this helps.

‘This package was delivered to you’ vs. ‘I have a package for you.’
In the first sentence, you have a destination. In the second, you have a recipient.

In Brazil there are many dates to celebrate, but to me the most inportant are Christmas and New Year (in December), Carnival (February) and the “Saint John’s Parties”( June and July)! It’s difficult for me to describe them because I’m not that good in English (yet)! But usually in Brazil we celebrate with much food, dance and prayers! Thanks for the lesson. I got 100% correct. But I don’t understand the active voice in one of sentences on the quiz: “Linda, this package arrived for you this morning.” Should it be “..was arrived..”? Please do correct my writing.

How about ‘This package came for you.’? Same as arrived but different word (synonym). That is because there is no agent acting on the package. I would however say ‘This package was delivered (to you).’

Excellent question. ‘Home’ is an exception because it is not a place, but an idea. “Go back to your country.’, or ‘ I need to go back to my house.’ would use the ‘to’ because these are physical locations.

This is a tough one. I can’t say that my answer is definitive, but I’ll suggest my thinking on it:
It’s new to me– When i am immersed in(surrounded by) a new situation, such as the first few weeks of a marriage, or a recently gained position of power, I would say it’s all so new to me, I don’t know how I should feel.
It’s new for me– This is when I am active in a new task, that is, doing something new, like learning a new computer program or managing a department I might not be qualified to manage, I would ask those around me to ‘please be patient, this is all new for me, I still have much to learn.’

Ronnie has explained this subject using other support to distinguish TO and FOR.
TO used in case of transference, exchange something.
FOR use in case of something good or benefit.

I have a question about “Mrs.Henry is always nice to us”.Probably “he is nice” is similar to ” he acts nicely”, and is like an action directed to us. (In my language we say “He is nice with us”- I don’t know why, but I am used to it)

Not actually sure what the question is :), but think of ‘be’ verbs as equal signs (=). Mrs. Henry is nice— Mrs. Henry = nice. ‘to us’ just suggests who she chooses to be nice to.

Mostly i knowit as ‘convenient for’ you, in that is makes life easier for you. However, convenient can also mean close to you (that is, in terms of distance.) In this case it is convenient to you.
Your house is five minutes away from work–it’s convenient to you. And your boss allows you to make your own schedule according to the times that are convenient for you.

I confused about Used To/Used for :(

Used for doing.
A knife is used to cut vegetables (with).
A knife is used for cutting vegetables.
The only difference is that I added the extra preposition (with) at the end of the ‘used to’ sentence, but they mean the same.
Used to can also mean get accustomed to , or describe a past habit. Many people prefer used for to avoid the risk of a misunderstanding..

The answer here is ‘to’ because a delivery has a destination, so the ‘to’ shows direction; it’s not an infinitive ‘to’. Also head office can’t receive the package.

A delivery has a destination. If I say to head office, it means that that is where it went. The package was delivered for you, means someone did the delivering on your behalf.

Hi Adam. Do you remember the night…No that was Harry Belafonte!! Do you remember that a century ago I asked you a lesson or a part of a lesson about ‘TO’ as as a proposition and the “ing” form for the following verbs. Like in “I’m looking forward to “seeing” you. May be it would be the good occasion to “learning” us how to make the difference between ‘TO’ as part of an infinitive and ‘TO’ as a proposition followed by a verb with the ‘ing’ form. Please, do it to make me happy :-)

In the meantime, I’ll just say that after the ‘to’ you will never have a verb in the -ing form What you will have is a gerund, or a noun of the verb. If you use to as an infinitive, it will always be followed by a verb. As a preposition, it usually forms part of an idiomatic verb, like used to, admit to, confess to, etc. What this means is that it belongs to the verb that precedes it, not the gerund that follows it. With that in mind, you have to find a list of these idiomatic verbs and remember them (hate to tell people to memorize rules in English, but sometimes that’s just the way it is.)
The thief confessed to stealing the painting.
The student admitted to cheating on the test.

I have actually a question concerning “to/for event”. Is it really bad when someone confuses those two? I’ve never wondered about this issue, but when you said “for diner” and “to diner”, I’m a little bit worried about this thing.
No worries, Morfik. Subtle distinctions like these, when they come up in spoken English, will clarify themselves pretty quickly, so there is no need to pick them apart too much.

I found this https://books.google.com/ngrams/ when I wanted to compare two similar phrases. In my case it was “the exact same” and “exactly the same”. I do this trick often when I’m not sure what I should write.
Adam, could you test it and tell whether its results are reliable? This might prove useful and be a really great tool.

I can see how it would be of some value, but to be honest, the beauty of English, or any language for that matter, I’m sure) is that it allows you flexibility and range such that you can say the same thing ten different ways and always get a particular nuance out of each. In the case of your two samples, both are equally usable:
The two paintings looked exactly the same; the forger must be a genuine artist, because he even managed to somehow achieve the exact same shade of purple in his sunset as had the original artist, a key feature that had won the latter so much praise.

In this particular case, I would use “exactly the same” because I haven’t really seen the other phrase, but you know, sometimes I want to write something, and I know what that would be, but unfortunately I’m not 100% sure, so I need some kind of a guide which can tell me if I’m right. It doesn’t tell me what to write, it just helps me to estimate if this is somehow acceptable and doesn’t sound awkward or something.

Maybe I don’t have problems with for/to in this lesson, but I do have problems with for/to in the following examples:
to/for me, you can do whatever you want.
It doesn’t matter to/for me.
It’s a pretty good idea to/for me.
I think there’s more, but unfortunately I can’t remember what that was. But in these examples, I would use “to”. I know there’s something else. :)

As I have said before, it’s REALLY confusing the use of TO and FOR! hehehe..
1)to/for me, you can do whatever you want.
Think:
You can do whatever you want to/for me.
Both are grammatically ok, with different meanings.
but,
As to me…— regarding me (as a topic)
as for me…— in my opinion; what I am going to do
2)It doesn’t matter to me.
3)It’s a pretty good idea to me.
4)It’s important to me— I have a personal interest (a vested interest) in it.
It’s important for me— it is useful.

The correct way would be to say I dream of you, meaning I dream about you. The second one should be if you love me, you’ll be (able to) be with me.
No need for the ‘to’ preps here.

There were some other similar sentences in the article I’m reading now, but this one seems to have all things that I want to discuss.
“to creating” — I know there’s a geround there, but could we rewrite this part to: “The first step to create your…”? If yes, does it matter which form we choose? I know there’s maybe not the best example because of “create + create”.
The other thing is “to create” (the second part of the sentence). Can we substitute it with “is creating (of) a base…” . If I remember well, there’s also possible to use “is create a base”.

That’s actually a huge question. I’ll try to make a video lesson on that soon. In the meantime, remember that a gerund is used like a noun, while a participle (active, present participle) is used like an adjective or an adverb. The participle is a reduced adjective or adverb clause.
e.g.:
Smoking is bad for you (gerund–the act of having a cigarette)
The smoking building attracted the attention of the fire department (adj. participle– the building that was smoking(from a fire)…
Smoking his first cigarette of the day, Brian started to wake up. (adv part—as he was smoking his first…)

Good catch! “I look to you” is also correct, but it means something different.
When you look FOR someone, you search for them; you’re trying to find them.
When you look TO someone, it means you get inspiration or guidance from them. Usually the phrase is “look to ___ for ___”. However, it’s used less often than “look for”.

honestly I am not understand this video exactly. I am doing this test by my sens.I am use to this preposition regularly. so that I got 90 from 100. Actually I don’t think this is difficult too much,consequently it’s a common structure just use your common sens and you will got it easily.

Hi Adam. I wonder if it is possible to use “to” when you are talking about doing something so someone could watch and learn. Like this:
– Can you teach me how to play volleyball?
– I don’t know how to teach, I could play to you, so you could see how it is done.
I know that if there is a reason, not followed by a verb, I could use for: “I play for you” but in this case, I am not thinking about reason, but a movement where I am doing this(from me) to you. like in “I will sing a song to you”.

Excellent, you are uno of the best teachers in the internet. I got a 100, I use a rule that I detected because I issue was uno of my worst headache.
I detect that a simplier rule in base on your different explanations. You could be use “to” when next phrase talk about a place and give the sense of direction or the nest phrase is a verb (action) and use for when the next phrase is people (or pronoun of person) or thing or situation. Any way… I think that I’m a different person with this… Thank you very much.

The correct is the second one because you are talking about your opinion, what you think about him o her. But if you use the preposition “for” that doesn’t necessary means that is about your point of view of the situation.

“For me” is to express its effect on you or it’s benefit for you, whether it’s good or bad.
“To me” is more to express opinion.
Examples:
“To me, he did great job”
If you have a good opinion about someone’s work.
“For me, he did great job”
If someone did you a favor
