That sounds like a good idea. Let me first install that program on my computer Azooom.
Thanks for your invite.
Great class on phrasal verbs Adam.
Talking about spelling,Yep! You were right about the spelling of assaSSinate. How about the word “protege”? As far as I can tell, it comes from french, so it should be spelled out “protégé”.
Thanks for this superb lesson Adam.
P.S. Did I use the verb “spell out” correctly?
Hi Regino,
You’re right about the accents on protege, but some writing apps (this forum for example) do not offer the option of adding these, so it has become acceptable to write without them :)
Hi Regino! A good idea. Please can you tell me how i can install and use the program for Skype? Thanks a lot.

Hi Selcuk,
The whole point of this forum is to help each other learn English. Jokes only work if everyone is laughing. If you see a negative reaction, better to let it go, not to increase the anger.
I meant no offense, just trying to settle things down.
OKAY MAN ( MEANTIME, ADAM IS MAN IN TURKISH :))
I MENT TO DO JUST SOME JOKES BUT WHEN OTHERS SAY : HE IS NOT TURKISH THIS MADE ME TOO MUCH…
I EXPECTED THEY WOULD UNDERSTAND IT IS JUST A JOKE BUT IT IS REACTED OPPOSITELY, ALSO I DIDNT MEAN TO OFFENCE ANY BODY AT ALL,, I AM SORRY OR THAT.
It’s no problem Selcuk. Sometimes misunderstandings happen, especially when there is only text and no face to see :)

Thank you Adam for this great and useful lesson! Indeed, I realized that phrasal verbs are very important in English language. Could you tell me which the phrasal verb with the largest differents meanings?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards.
There are many like these Wellington. :)
You can look them up online and study them. For example, how many meanings does ‘turn in’ have ?
Thank you teacher! You have awesome lessons and your particular website is very educational too. :)
Very useful lesson, thank you Adam! I didn’t know about take after, take in, take to, take on.
I’ve found also :take aback (to surprise) take away (the British form for take out – as I understood)
Hi Engread,
It’s taken aback (surprised) :)
Hi Adam,
I did know only “take-away” in place of your “take-out”. It seems that the former is used in Great Britain, whereas the latter in North America.

‘To be mean’ means to be ‘not nice’.

Hi Katrin,
Number 1 is the only correct one, though it can be better written as ” My friend has an island that’s not very big.”
As for the next question in the next comment:
https://www.engvid.com/english-resource/verbs-followed-by-gerunds-and-infinitives/

Hello Adam from Thailand.
If you have some time. I would like to study English. About ! Okay. I interested in the words of native speakers when they say with their boyfriends or girlfriends (informal language). I would like to know, when they are boring, angry or want to stop the relationship with their girl/boyfriends. How native speaker say ?? If in Thailand, we say ” we should keep our distance ” yes, I don’t know Is my sentence make sense in English or not ? Haha !!!
Another sentences such as ” You are better for me., so we should give up our relation. Or I think, we can not mix. (It means we are more different, I can not understand you, you can not understand me.)
Or please give me what reason in English when people use for giving up relationship with someone
Or How will they say ?
Thank you.
Hi Haridan,
There are many expressions, so this might make a good lesson :)
As for your examples:
We should time some time for ourselves.
You are too good for me. I don’t deserve you. You should find someone better.
Hope this helps a little :)
I prefer taking out food from my oven, than a take out from McDonalds! heheh!
Nice sentence!
:)
Completely agree with you, Iconica15 :)

Thank you very much. Now I want to watch the lesson and got 5(fife).
This a very useful…admittedly..this lesson has clarified me certain doubts..Thanks a lot..
Adam, Can you please upload another lesson with phrasal verbs specifically with the word “bring” thanks in advance
thank you a lot teacher.
Thank you Adam, you are a great teacher!
Very helpful!Thanks!
Thank you, Adam. Very well structured explanations. In the lesson you gave an example for “take to (someone)”, but in the test it was used as take to (something), particularly the process of breastfeeding. It was a bit confusing to me, considering not looking it up in the dictionary right away and the meaning you provide “to have a sort of connection with that person…”. So, my question: referring to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, does it mean “to conceive a liking for”? Maybe it’s obvious, but I just want to make sure I understand that correctly. Which baby doesn’t like it? :)
Hi Haliota,
Yes, you are correct. You can take a liking to someone or something. It means to like or to develop a habit.
You’d be surprised how many babies don’t like breastfeeding. They are given baby formula instead. :)
Ann’s baby took ________ breastfeeding almost instantly.
What about this ? Can someone help me :)?
took to – it means to start doing something
Baby took to breastfeeding- began to eat
Hi Hitjones,
Vasil gave a good answer, but here’s a little more:
Ann’s baby took to breastfeeding almost instantly.
The baby liked it, or developed the habit almost instantly. Some babies take a long time to breastfeed and some babies never do it at all.
Hope this helps

Hi Adam, Thanks for your lessons, it’s totally useful. Especially the phrasal verbs’ ones. I’m currently working in London to improve my English and my collegues often use verbs like pick, drop or push. Would it be possible to do a lesson for each of this verb ? Again, thanks a lot ! Nico
Hi Nico,
I’ll see what I can do :)
Thanks a lot. Adam… very useful
Phrasal verbs are kind of difficult. But when the teacher (Adam) explains them. they seems easy.
really helpful!!!
Thank you, Adam! I’m happy, I’ve got 8 of 10!!!
Great session teacher, I find them very useful. If someone wants to speak with me in English I will be very grateful.
My flag is brithish but I am Spanish. I can change your English for my Spanish
First of all, I am going to ask you a lot of questions (sorry about that) which confuse me all the time.
I’m basically focusing more on writing than speaking. So most of my questions will be about that.
1. In the last sentence I have written, Do I need to put comma after so (this confuses me many times as it is the most common transition word)?
2. If I write two questions which are separated by the conjunction or, do I need to invert the word order to question or do I have to use embedded question word order after or?
This is exactly what I have just done unintentionally (putting two questions using or).
3. In the last two questions, I have used question word order after the introductory clause and if clause. Is this right? Can I use question word order after comma?
4. Which noun form should be followed by any (singular or plural)?
Lastly, could you please tell me if I have made any grammar mistakes above?
Thanks Adam. You are awesome.
Hi Mkb,
I’m basically focusing more on writing than speaking. So most of my questions will be about that.
1. In the last sentence I have written, do I need to put comma after so?
You need to put a comma before so, not a period. This is a coordinating conjunction.
2. If I write two questions which are separated by the conjunction or, do I need to invert the word order to question or do I have to use embedded question word order after or?
You wrote this question correctly. The important thing about coordinating conjunctions is to have parallel structures on either side of the conjunction: do I need to or do I need to…? Should I do A or can I get away with B?
3. In the last two questions, I have used question word order after the introductory clause and if clause. Is this right? Can I use question word order after comma?
Yes and yes :) The question is the independent clause.
4. Which noun form should be followed by any (singular or plural)? both are possible:
If there are any questions on the test you’re not sure about, ask for clarification.
If you are unsure about any word(s) in the text, look it/them up.
Lastly, could you please tell me if I have made any grammar mistakes above?
Nope (one capital D, but I’ll take it as a typo;) )
Dear Adam,
Thank you your lesson and your explanations. Your lessons are the best useful for me. However I agree with Haliota’s comment. Please write more about phrase of “Take to”. (Dear Haloita, I am violin artist and I would like to know you, because you could help me in my profession and vice versa.)
Hi Vidam, basicaly my background is in visual arts.
I’m afraid that Music is not my area of expertise, although my child plays 2 musical instruments. If you are looking for the musical terminology in English, I’m not the right person to ask. But if you have any general related questions feel free to ask and I will see if I’m capable to help you out.
Hi Vidamzenesz,
Ann’s baby took to breastfeeding almost instantly.
The baby liked it, or developed the habit almost instantly. Some babies take a long time to breastfeed and some babies never do it at all.
Thanks, Adam.
But I have a question.
‘I failed in history.’
‘I failed history.’
Are both of them correct? If yes, what is the difference between these two sentences?
Get one more question. Sorry.
‘fail the exam’ and ‘fail in the exam’
Which one is correct?
Thanks.
Hi Sophie,
Technically, “I failed in History.” is correct, as you are talking about the subject. But many students say I failed history, meaning history class.
I failed the exam is correct.
Great lesson, Adam! You are a great teacher. I have a request. Could you create a lesson about phrasal verbs with verb SET, please? Thank you very much!

What is the difference between no sooner than and as soon as :D
Hi Zand,
They’re almost the same.
No sooner than means right after something. as soon as means at the same time, but essentially, they are used in the same way to mean the same thing.
Sir /Madam video lectures can not be played……..

Have a good one
8/10 a little diffucult
thank mr adam i got ninety percent i cannot answer the last question right
Hi Adam. I find your phrasal verbs lessons quite mild and user friendly ;) You pick 1-2 meanings for each, whereas one can find loads of meanings for some of them in dictionaries. Moreover, there’s the declaration you made the other day, that your phrasal verbs lessons series will soon be finished. A mysterious thing.
Anyway, there is something else I’d like to take up with you. It concerns expressions built of nouns, like:
“tenses usage explanation”,
“the design and the implementation of the automatic mode of the processing of the clients requests”,
“phrasal verbs lessons series”.
Any time I have to use an expression like that, especially in writing, I feel uncertain. The doubts come in 3 categories:
1. When to use the version with “of”, when not? Which forms are better, the above or:
“the explanation of the usage of tenses”,
“clients requests processing automatic mode design and implementation”,
“the series of lessons of phrasal verbs”
or maybe some “mixed” versions would be optimal?
2. When is it possible or desirable to use a gerund instead of a regular noun, e.g. “the design and implementing of the automatic mode …”, “explanation of using of tenses”?
3. How to use articles in such expressions? Can some be omitted for the sake of style?
Would it be possible to put any rules or tips on this subject?
Thanks for the lesson.
Hi Tomek,
When it comes to compound nouns, remember that the first in the series act as adjectives.
tense usage explanation– what type of explanation? tense usage
If you can use ‘of’ then there must be an apostrophe (‘) if you omit the of.
client requests’ processing
The gerund is the activity. If you want to talk about the concept, use the regular noun if one is available.
The design and implementation of A takes years to master. (the idea of this)
He is responsible for the designing and implementing of A. (for doing this)
Articles cannot be omitted if they are required.
Hope this helps a little.
It definitely helped, thank you.
However, what about following example: “input validation”? For me, it means exactly the same as “validation of input” and I would never write “input’s validation”. Am I wrong?
I would also like to ask directly about long chains like “something of something of…”. I put an example of that in the first comment. Are such chains ok or you would suggest rearranging them somehow?
Well, when you get to technical writing, it’s a little difficult to avoid these chains because they use jargon. This is why most people hate reading technical stuff. If you can avoid it, do so.
As for input validation, here you have a compound noun where the first noun acts as an adjective to the second. In this case, the possessive is generally understood (liver transplant = transplant of the liver). When you start adding words (nouns) then eventually you need to add the apostrophe to indicate which noun the possessive belongs to.
Thanks for a quality response, I appreciate it.
Great job. :D Thank you for the great lesson. I’m looking forward to more lesson on phrasal verbs.
Thank you, I enjoyed the lesson.
Hello,
Mr.Adam

Actually, Rebecca made a lesson about this already:

Hope this helps you a little :)
To be honest and I’m really sorry to say that! I can understand you and some of the other teachers very well, but I don’t unerdstand teacher Rebecca very well! I know it’s my mistake and I know I need to practise more to understand all the kind of accent!
Now what I felt from your vedios and other teacher vedios that is ILETS exam is more suitable for me. Im just following your vedios and teacher Emma’s vedios to be better.
The last request is I have problem with (s,’s or s’) could you please do lesson for that?
Thank you very much
I’ll get on it Emy :)
One important note to keep in mind if you are going to do the IELTS: spelling counts on IELTS because it a handwritten test. ;)

Hi Adam.
This lesson is very interesting.
But I thing you did talk about one meaning of the expression “take off” which is “to remove”.
For example if I say : I take off my shoes or my clothes.
Best wishes.
Hi Katrin,
All Ok. :)
Thank you Adam. And for an advice, too.
Great lesson!
This was very helpful for me! Thank you
Hi Adam.
This lesson is very interesting.
But I thing you didn’t talk about one meaning of the expression “take off” which is “to remove”.
For example if I say : I take off my shoes or my clothes.
Best wishes
Thank you so much Mr.Adam for the nice lesson. Your teaching make me too easy to understand the meaning, differ from my old teacher who tell me to remember only.
Hi ,
what is the best sentence to use : Today I went to school or today I have gone to school . Because I haven’t already figured out the difference between the past simple and the present perfect when there aren’t any yet , already , lately ( which are used with the present perfect ) or the time of the action isn’t said like yesterday , last week ( which are used with the past simple )
Thank you ;)
Hi Berne,
I would say Today I went to school. It is an understood past time because you are not at school now and ‘today’ is not that long, so it’s almost a definite past time.
Does this help?
Hi Adam thanks for lesson. I have a question what is the different between struggle over and struggle against? Example struggle over racism or struggle against racism which is correct?
Hi Cerenacar,
Actually they are both correct. The struggle over is the fight (noun) about something. Struggle with is to fight (verb) against something.
African-Americans’ struggle over equality has been going on for decades.
African-Americans struggle with racism every day.
Does this help?
Oh gosh, phrasal verbs drive me crazy!
Great teaching. I sometimes find it difficult to translate on my own without a native speaker’s help. If possible help me to edit-proof my translation.
Thanks for the lesson! I’ve learned a lot. I got 10/10 :)
Thank you for answer and assistance me know about the expressions.
Thank you so much Adam. It’s very pleasant to come in your classes. Now, i’ve got a question: What are the correct expressions?:”I take the problem on” or “I take on the problem” and “I take my class notes down” or “I take down my class notes”.
Hi Santiago,
In these examples, both ways are acceptable. There are some phrasal verbs in which the noun must come between the verb and preposition.
In most cases it’s a matter of what is more comfortable. Also, in some cases the difference is emphasis.
I take on the problem- focus on problem
I take the problem on-focus on take on
Does this help?
It does. Thanks!

I loved this quiz!!

Hi Adam,
I have a question. At this part of The Beatles’ song what is the meaning of take out?
You said that it may refer to food (to go / your e.g: mcdonald’s food). You also mentioned its literal meaning, in other words, to take something out of somewhere (your e.g: turkey). And lastly, you said it may be used as a slang (to assassinate).
If you don’t take her out tonight,
She’s gonna change her mind,
(She’s gonna change her mind)
And I will take her out tonight,
And I will treat her kind.
(I’m gonna treat her kind)
According to your explanations and definitions, I could not find the appropriate meaning. Does it have to do with invitation?
Best wishes,
Fernando
You’re right, there is another meaning — to take someone out on a date.
Thank you very much.
A little bit difficult to remember all theses and clarify. But I am trying

What’s the song?
Hi, I’m always thankful to your great lectures.
After I saw this video and took quiz, I have a few questions about them.
I didn’t catch on quiz #6, 10 sentences’ meaning.
You said ‘take someone out’ meant ‘kill someone’.
You meant ‘Jack wants to kill Cindy ON A DATE’???????????
I was a little confused.
And in quiz #10, ‘Ann’s baby took to breastfeeding almost instantly.’
I can’t understand the meaning of this sentence.
Looking forward to hearing from Adam or anyone who can answer to my questions…
;(
Actually in this context, the phrase was used in literal meaning: to take sth out of someplace.
So, sometimes it might have discrepancies and you need to distinguish them by the context.
You’re amazing, thank you.
does it depend of its name?
thank you Mr Adam
Hi Adam!

9/10 Aww yeah
You said you are taking up learning spanish, so I will say this in Spanish: GRAN TRABAJO AMIGO
Hi Adam! I love your lessons about phrasal verbs!:)
I have a little question about the difference between “look like” and ”take after”!
Look like –> Physical similarities
Take after –> Same character traits (personality) + Family relationship
Am I right ?
I can’t say ”I take after my friend because I love cars like he does.” ?
But I can’t say “I look like my friend because I love cars like he does.” either ? (given that ”look like” is for physical similarities) So, how can I say it?
I hope you will understand, I’m only a beginner and I can’t express very well.
Thanks a lot :)
Yey! ?
